Vaibhav Gehlot, the son of former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, was defeated by more than two lakh votes in the state's Jalore parliamentary constituency on Tuesday, according to information posted on the Election Commission website.

Mr Gehlot, who campaigned for the seat where his dad has significant support, was defeated by BJP candidate Lumbaram.

Vaibhav Gehlot described Jalore as "a tough seat" in an interview with the PTI news agency.

He further said, "Election results are in front of us. Jalore has been a tough seat. For the last 20 years, Congress could not win this seat but the party directed me to contest from here.""I would like to thank all the party workers and leaders for their hard work. I would also like to congratulate winning candidate Lumbaram," he added.

BJP's Lumbaram defeated Congress' candidate Vaibhav Gehlot with 2,01,543 votes in the Jalore seat. Lumbaram got 7,96,783 votes, while Vaibhav Gehlot received 5,95,240 votes. Arjun Ram Meghwal won the Bikaner seat with 55,711 votes. Bhupendra Yadav won the Alwar seat with 48,282 votes. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Jal Shakti Minister, won the Jodhpur seat with 1,15,677 votes.
