Jaipur police bust extortion gang operating from a high security jail, 6 arrested

Jaipur police stated on Monday that they had busted a huge extortion racket operating from Ajmer's high-security jail and had detained six people from various districts. According to DCP (west) Amit Kumar, the criminals planned to open fire on several businessmen in the Sikar region if their extortion demands were not met.
“We had specific information that the gang was all set to execute a major criminal act,” Kumar said.
Three Ajmer prison inmates—Vikram Gurjar, Mukesh Jat and Kuldeep Chaudhary—had been taken into custody by Jaipur police on the basis of a production warrant for a case that was filed in the Chitrakoot area. During their interrogation, the names of around 10 criminals from Jaipur and Sikar came up.
Six people have been arrested by police in connection with this incident. These include Sonu Singh from Banetha in Tonk, Lokesh Sahu alias Modi from Kundera in Sawai Madhopur, Girdhari Man from Amarsar, Hansraj Gurjar from Gokulpura in Sikar, Jaysingh from Arai in Ajmer and Kuldeep Vaishnav from Madanganj in Ajmer. A separate case has been registered at Vaishali Nagar police station.
According to sources who spoke with TOI, some Ajmer jail security persons may have been involved in the extortion racket.
“Further investigation is underway in the case. We believe the gang was facing a dearth of money in jail, which was why they plotted this extortion,” said an officer.
